Abstract
Since its first appearance in the world, journalism is the most basic phenomenon that covers ever wider areas, enabling people from all over the world and from all layers to interact consciously or unconsciously, geographically and culturally. Today, as a result of globalization and digitalization, we can get news even from the farthest point of the world, especially thanks to online media outlets. The enormous impact of the news on the masses has brought along many criteria in news writing and translation, and many factors that have an impact on the process. The changes in the source text in the translation of the news into different languages and in producing a text that appeals to the target audience constitute important topics for a comparative analysis and criticism, especially in terms of style, discourse and culture. The research stage of this study has shown that a thorough method for analyzing, evaluation or criticism of news translation has not been put forward so far, a fact which constitutes the initial aim of this study. In this context, the models of two important translation theorists, Raymond van den Broeck and Margret Ammann, were taken and Turkish and English news about the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has occupied the largest part of the world's agenda since last year, were examined in the light of the translation criticism model created by combining them. As the steps offered by the theorists have matching objectives in terms of determining the function and identifying the similarities and difference between the source and target texts, they are intertwined and a core model has been reached. each news text pair is analyzed in an itemized way in order to bring out the translator's choices. Since Broeck and Ammann has tried to avoid deeming a translation right or wrong, the focus is placed on the purpose and outcome of these choices. The alterations, additions, omissions, phonetic and syntactic changes are brought to light and interpreted accordingly and the reasons of these preferences are identified as a result.
