| gperson.biography | Alper Şahin, Ph.D. is Assoc. Prof. of Educational Measurement and Evaluation. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in English Language Teaching from Gazi University, Ankara, Türkiye, and a Ph.D. in Measurement and Evaluation in Education from Hacettepe University, Ankara. He is widely recognized for his contribution to the field of psychometrics with his seminal work (doctoral dissertation) on determining the minimum sample sizes necessary for the reliable estimation of item parameters in dichotomous Item Response Theory (IRT) models. He conducted his post-doctoral research on Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) at the University of Minnesota under the supervision of Prof. David J. Weiss, supported by a generous grant from the Scientific and Technological Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK). His research led to the introduction of a novel technique for simulation studies in CAT, focusing on ability intervals along the ability continuum. As the author of both Turkish and English versions of the State Test Anxiety Scale (STAS), based on the latest Biopsychosocial model of Test Anxiety, Dr. Şahin has a keen interest in understanding and addressing the complexities of test anxiety and its effects on test scores. Dr. Şahin has designated the year 2024 as the year to unveil his Asymmetric Theory (www.asymmetrictheory.com) along with its extensions, the Asymmetric Theory of Assessment (ATA) and Asymmetric Rubrics designed for the assessment of Speaking and Writing skills in Language Assessment. Click here to see the recent publications. From 2015 to 2023, Dr. Şahin served as the Director of Education on the board of the International Association for Computerized Adaptive Testing (IACAT). Presently, he is a board member of The Association for Measurement and Evaluation in Education and Psychology (AMEEP) and serves as the Chairperson in the Department of Basic English at Atilim University. | |
