Article Citation Count: 0Anxiety and Depression After Cesarean: Non-pharmacological Evidence Based Practices;(Dokuz Eylul University, 2022) Terzioğlu,F.; Gençbaş,D.; Boztepe,H.; Doğu,N.; Akdeniz,C.; Yüceer,B.; NursingThe purpose of this review is to examine the non-pharmacological evidence-based practices of anxiety and depression after a cesarean section delivery. Postpartum anxiety and depression have increased in the last decade, the rates of postpartum depression are around 13% worldwide. In the postpartum period, women may experience anxiety and depression due to the operation they have undergone; such as being in an unfamiliar environment, facing new technological equipment and encounters with the medical teams, the post-operative pain, the new roles women undertake as mothers. One of the factors that increase anxiety and depression in the postpartum period is the type of delivery. In Turkey, the rate of cesarean delivery is comparatively high, which is approximately 52%. Anxiety and depression after cesarean section develop due to fear and concern such as the complications that may occur during and after the mother's anesthesia, the possibility delaying breastfeeding her baby, and experiencing pain. Non-pharmacological evidence-based applications such as reiki, acupressure, hand and foot massage, yoga, reflexology, aromatherapy, skin to skin care, nursing care protocols were found to be effective in studies conducted to reduce anxiety and depression after cesarean-section. Nurses who have critical roles and responsibilities in pre-and post-cesarean care practices are recommended to include these evidence-based non-pharmacological practices in routine care practices. © 2022, Dokuz Eylul University. There was evidence that neonatal outcomes were improved.Article Citation Count: 1The effects of amniotic fluid and foetal cord blood cotinine concentrations on pregnancy complications and the anthropometric measurements of newborns(Taylor & Francis inc, 2019) Terzioglu, Fusun; Boztepe, Handan; Erkekoglu, Pinar; Korucu, Asli Er; Kocer-Gumusel, Belma; Kandemir, Omer; NursingOur objective was determining the effects of amniotic fluid (AF) and fetal cord blood (FCB) cotinine concentrations on pregnancy complications and the anthropometric measurements in the newborns whose mothers underwent amniocentesis. This study was conducted as a case-control study, in Turkey. A total of 250 pregnant women with amniocentesis indication were recruited into the study and the cotinine levels in the AF and FCB were determined. A smoking habit did not statistically affect the incidence of pregnancy complications (p>.05). The birth weights of the newborns were negatively correlated with the AF cotinine levels. The incidences of low birth weight, low Apgar scores and RDS were positively correlated with higher levels of cotinine in AF and FCB. It is important for healthcare staff to provide training and consultancy services for the health improvement of pregnant women and the prevention of smoking during pregnancy.Impact statement What is already known on this subject? The pre-pregnancy smoking habit usually continues during the pregnancy. A significant negative correlation was present between the foetal cord blood cotinine levels and the birth weight. What do the results of this study add? The anthropometric measurements of the newborns born from mothers with high AF cotinine levels were lower than newborns born from mothers with low amniotic fluid cotinine levels. Respiratory Distress syndrome is more often determined in newborns born from mothers with high AF cotinine levels.Correction Citation Count: 0The effects of Kinesio taping and breathing exercises on pain management after gynaecological abdominal surgery: A randomized controlled study (vol 29, e13088, 2023)(Wiley, 2023) Yilmaz, S.; Terzioglu, F.; Nursing[No Abstract Available]Article Citation Count: 26Effects of Massage and Acupressure on Relieving Labor Pain, Reducing Labor Time, and Increasing Delivery Satisfaction(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2020) Gonenc, Ilknur Munevver; Terzioglu, Fusun; NursingBackground: Several recent studies have documented the effects of massage and acupressure in reducing labor pain and labor time and in satisfaction with the delivery. However, few studies have investigated the comparative effects of these two therapies. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of massage and acupressure on labor-related pain management, duration, and satisfaction with delivery. Methods: This randomized controlled trial (n = 120) included three intervention groups (massage only, acupressure only, and massage + acupressure) and one control group, in which patients received no massage or acupressure treatment. A personal information form, Pregnant Watch Form, and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were used to collect data. Frequency and percentage calculations, chi-square test, Student's t test, Tukey's honestly significant difference test, and one-way variance analysis were used for data analysis. Results: In the latent phase of labor, the mean VAS scores of the massage-only group and massage + acupressure group were lower (4.56 +/- 1.36 and 4.63 +/- 1.52, respectively) than that of the control group (6.16 +/- 1.46; p < .01). In the active and transition phases, the mean VAS scores of the massage-only group, acupressure-only group, and massage + acupressure group were significantly lower than that of the control group (p < .01 and p < .001, respectively). During postpartum, the mean VAS score of the massage + acupressure group was lower (2.30 +/- 0.70) than that of the control group (2.96 +/- 0.72; p = .003). Cervical dilatation completion time and 1- and 5-minute Apgar scores were similar among all of the groups (p > .05). The three intervention groups reported relatively more positive feelings than the control group, and all three of the interventions were found to be effective in improving satisfaction.Article Citation Count: 49Effects of Reflexology and Progressive Muscle Relaxation on Pain, Fatigue, and Quality of Life during Chemotherapy in Gynecologic Cancer Patients(Elsevier Science inc, 2019) Dikmen, Hacer Alan; Terzioglu, Fusun; NursingPurpose: Our aim was to investigate the effect of reflexology and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) exercises on pain, fatigue, and quality of life (QoL) of gynecologic cancer patients during chemotherapy. The study was conducted between June 1, 2015, and September 30, 2015, at a university hospital and at a training and research hospital in Ankara, Turkey. The study sample included 152 patients who received inpatient treatment at the selected hospitals' gynecologic oncology clinics, and 29 nurses are working at these clinics. The number of the patients was determined by using One-Sample t-Test Power Analysis. The questionnaire was filled by the researcher using face-to-face interview method. The data were analyzed by using Independent Samples t Test, the Mann-Whitney U test, ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis H tests. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests were used to determine whether distribution of the parameters was normal. Patients' perception on "nurses support their individuality" was found to be X= 3.07 +/- 0.97 and their perception on "nurses provide individual care" was X = 2.33 +/- 0.69. As patients' perception on "nurses support their individuality" increased, their perception on "nurses provide individual care service" also increased (r = 0.736; p = 0.001). The patients' satisfaction with care was at a moderate level (63.16 +/- 14.97). The level of perception on "nurses support the individuality of patients during care practices (X= 1.65 +/- 0.58) and provide individual care service to the patients (X = 1.61 +/- 0.62)" was low. Nurses stating that they supported the individuality of patients provided individual care to their patients (r = 0.828; p = 0.001). The nurses' perception on "they support patients' individuality" and "they provide individual care service" was lower than patients' perception on "nurses support their individuality" and "nurses provide individual care." The nurses' job satisfaction (general satisfaction) was at a moderate level (3.08). In this study, nurses' perception on individualized care was lower than patients' perception.Article Citation Count: 15Interprofessional simulation-based training in gynecologic oncology palliative care for students in the healthcare profession: A comparative randomized controlled trial(Churchill Livingstone, 2020) Uslu-Sahan, Fatma; Terzioglu, Fusun; NursingBackground: Preprofessional palliative care education may be inadequate, leaving a gap in health professional students' knowledge and understanding of managing patients with gynecologic cancer and their families. Interprofessional simulation-based training may be useful in helping health professional students gain the necessary skills required for palliative care. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of different simulation methods used for interprofessional training on gynecologic oncology palliative care knowledge, interdisciplinary education perceptions, and teamwork attitudes of health professional students and to compare these methods. Design: A comparative randomized controlled trial was conducted with a pre-test and two post-tests. Settings: This study was conducted at a university in Ankara, Turkey, in 2016-2017. Participants: A convenience sample of 84 interprofessional students (nursing, medical, nutrition-dietician, and social work) was used in the study. Methods: Students were stratified by their profession and randomized by four blocks into high-fidelity simulation, hybrid simulation, and a control group. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire form, palliative care knowledge test, interdisciplinary education perception scale, and teamwork attitudes questionnaire. Results: The high-fidelity simulation and hybrid simulation groups improved their palliative care knowledge, interdisciplinary education perception, and teamwork attitudes from pre-test to first and second post-tests compared to the control group.
