Abstract

Translation, which helps to carry not only words but also cultures and ideologies, has separated from linguistics in time and created a separate field. Its interdisciplinary nature has enabled translation to have many sub-fields. Until a period of culturalstudies, translation was dominated by the original text and author. However, with the cultural turn, the role of translators in cultural transmission was also revealed. In addition to their identity as translators, women who are placed in a similar position by the society in terms of their existence, have found the way to make themselves visible and to destroy patriarchy in language. With the perspective of 'the freer the language becomes, the more free women can be', the feminist translation by women who want to destroy the patriarchy in language, with their translator identities, had a great impact. In the 1980s, at a time when the second wave of feminism was experienced in the world, women in Turkey also rose up against violence and started an organization thinking that they could provide their own salvation. Seeing that women from different parts of the world have similar problems, they started research to inform and inform about this issue, and when they realized that there was no source, they applied for translation. Considering the relationship between translation and language, this thesis examines the relationship between the feminist translation studies that started in Turkey in the 1980s and the feminist translation movement with the polysystem theory. In order to examine this relationship, the publishers were contacted, and questions were asked. In addition to the interviews, the views of academics, both academically and as translators, in the field of feminist translation were also included. As a result of the translation, there have been great changes in the fields of feminism and women's studies, both on the side of publishing houses and in the academic field.
