Abstract
In this study, the life story, professional activities, and architectural work of Gabriel Guevrekian, who is believed to be a significant figure in modern architecture yet has received limited attention in academic studies, are researched. Based on the developments in his professional life, classifications were made according to chronological periods and geographies and presented in the form of a monographic narrative form from the perspective of architecture. The study aims to understand the development and transformation of the works that Guevrekian produced throughout his life (1900-1970). Guevrekian utilized his professional knowledge and architectural experience in different countries to shape the design of public and private buildings, garden layouts, interior space organization, and occasionally, the design of furniture he used in the buildings. Furthermore, he contributed to the development of modern architecture by generating ideas on urban design. Guevrekian established a significant connection for the advancement of the modern architectural movement in the triangle of Europe, Asia, and America. The architect played an essential role in modern architecture as an architect who produced projects of different scales, worked in different geographies and thus in different cultures. He also attached importance to using features brought by different cultures. In addition, having a political perspective and taking active roles in professional activities enabled him to take a pioneering stance in the field of architecture. He contributed to the work aimed at advancing modern architecture. In this way, Guevrekian both became an architect who put his signature under innovative designs in modern architecture and considered architectural practice as a tool of social transformation.
