Abstract
ABSTRACTSAPMAZ, Sinem. Analysis of The Occupational Health and Safety Practises and Its Impact on The Productivity in a Manufacturing Facility, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2013.One of the main reasons for the occupational injuries and illnesses in our country is that effective occupational health and safety programs have not been established or the health and safety regulations have not been followed with full compliance based on efforts at the workplaces in order to cut cost at workplaces. In fact, the money invested to develop and endorse measures that might prevent injuries and illnesses at workplace is less compared to what workplaces would encounter in the case of financial loss in the long term due to the occupational injuries and illnesses. There is an unmet need for the awareness of health and safety at workplace by employers (company directors and managers) and employees. The occupational health and safety practices not only create a healthy working environment, protect workers against accidents at work and occupational illnesses, but also increase the productivity by providing the continuation of the labor force. In this research study, it is aimed at contributing to the development of the occupational health and safety in our country by performing analysis of the occupational health and safety practices, the assessment of the effects on productivity in a firm operating in the manufacturing industry. This research study was conducted at Murat Makina in Istanbul, Turkey utilizing methodologies, namely, browsing the archives, and reviewing related documents, detailed observations at the facility grounds, the personnel interviews and the survey application.
