Conference Object Citation Count: 17Analysis of elastic-plastic interference-fit joints(Elsevier Science Bv, 2014) Music, Ömer; Karadoğan, Celalettin; Koc, Asuman; Karadogan, Celalettin; Bayram, Cagdas; Manufacturing EngineeringThis paper presents an examination of the elastic-plastic interference fit joints for simple and complex pin-tube geometries. Mechanics of the process is studied in detail through physical trials and numerical models. Results show there are three distinct stages as the pin is pushed into the tube and that an optimum geometry maximising the joint strength exists. (C) 2014 The Authors. Bu çalışmada oluşturulan parametre çalışmaları ile, basit geometriden karmaşık geometriye kadar, deneysel, nümerik ve analitik çözümler kullanılarak sistem ve proses mekaniğine olan etkilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştırConference Object Citation Count: 3A Potential Solution to Mystical Materials in Indentation Test(Elsevier Science Bv, 2017) Billur, Eren; Davut, Kemal; Music, O.; Simsir, C.; Şimşir, Caner; Music, Ömer; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; Automotive Engineering; Manufacturing EngineeringVarious methods have been designed to determine the elasto-plastic properties of metals. Instrumented indentation test (IIT) is considered to be a good candidate to determine local properties after manufacturing operations. In order to acquire elastoplastic properties from IIT, either dimensional analysis or inverse analysis of the force-displacement curve is performed. However, the major drawback of those methods is the uniqueness of the solution. Some materials may exhibit almost identical force-depth curves, although they have different elastoplastic properties. Those materials are referred as "mystical materials". In this contribution, topological features of the indentation surfaces, i.e. indent size, pile-up and sink-in behaviour, are investigated to find a differentiating property. According to the results, indent size, pile-up and sink-in behaviour may help to find the unique solution to the inverse problem. (C) 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. However, despite this interest, numerical modelling of the process is still challenging and the mechanics of the process is not yet fully understood. This paper presents fast numerical models for Incremental Sheet Forming. The models are shown to reduce computational time by up to 24 times, with a maximum shape error of 8%. The results suggest that the approach could be used to model process within acceptable time, and could be potentially used to explore the process in more detail using solid (brick) elements.Article Citation Count: 42The technical and commercial potential of an incremental ring rolling process(Elsevier, 2005) Music, Ömer; Kopp, R; Michels, D; Music, O; Öztop, M; Stanistreet, TF; Tiedemman, I; Manufacturing EngineeringA novel incremental ring rolling process is proposed, in which a narrow mandrel is moved both radially and axially. The process has potential to allow flexible near-net-shape forming of both hot and cold rings, and has been assessed by experiments on commercial cold ring rolling machines, a physical simulation using wax rings, and two finite element models. The results suggest that the process is technically feasible although the cycle time increases with the degree of flexibility and the stability of deformation depends on careful design of the tool path.
