Conference Object Citation - WoS: 3A Cognitive Requirement Specification Model(Ieee, 2009) Cafer, Ferid; Misra, Sanjay; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 01. Atılım UniversityEliciting/Gathering information from the customers in requirement phase is the most crucial task in the development of the software development process, because this phase builds the base for the success or failure of any software product. Requirements specification process highly depends on the knowledge and mental abilities of the customers. In this paper, we are proposing a cognitive requirement specification model based on the cognitive classification of customers.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 3Effective Project Leadership in Computer Science and Engineering(Springer-verlag Berlin, 2009) Cafer, Ferid; Misra, Sanjay; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 01. Atılım UniversityProject leaders are the most important individuals in projects. A project leader should follow some thinking styles and values which can lead his or her team to success. There is a common notion among software specialists that the more complex a project manager thinks, the better his leadership is. In this paper, we discuss the significance of simple thinking in project leadership. If the leader thinks in a simple way, then the risk of being suffocated in details is less. Complex thinking brings out greater risks of losing the general control of the system because of spending too much time and effort on details and, as a result, more confusion. Not only simplicity, but also psychological factors are important in guiding teams and developing projects in the most effective way. Here, we present a set of qualities for a good project leader in software engineering. In addition to that, we also demonstrate how cognitive and ethical issues affect leadership qualities.Article Citation - WoS: 7Estimating Complexity of Programs in Python Language(Univ Osijek, Tech Fac, 2011) Misra, Sanjay; Cafer, Ferid; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 01. Atılım UniversityIn this paper, a complexity metric for Python language is formulated. Since Python is an object oriented language, the present metric is capable to evaluate any object-oriented language. We validate our metric with case study, comparative study and empirical validation. The case study is in Python, Java and C++ and the results prove that Python is better than other object-oriented languages. Later, we validate the metric empirically with a real project, which is developed in Python.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 11Estimating Quality of Javascript(Zarka Private Univ, 2012) Misra, Sanjay; Cafer, Ferid; Computer Engineering; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 01. Atılım UniversityThis paper proposes a complexity metric for Java script since JavaScript is the most popular scripting language that can run in all of the major web browsers. The proposed metric "JavaScript Cognitive Complexity Measure (JCCM)" is intended to assess the design quality of scripts. The metrics has been evaluated theoretically and validated empirically through real test cases. The metric has also been compared with other similar metrics. The theoretical, empirical validation and comparative study prove the worth and robustness of the metric.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2A Multi-Paradigm Complexity Metric (mcm)(Springer-verlag Berlin, 2011) Misra, Sanjay; Akman, Ibrahim; Cafer, Ferid; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 01. Atılım UniversityHuge amount of researches and software metrics have been proposed for procedural and object-oriented languages. However, there are only few metrics available in the literature related with multi-paradigm programming languages. In this paper, we propose a metric to evaluate the code written in multi-paradigm language. Our proposed metric can be used for most of the programming paradigms, including both procedural and object-oriented languages.Article Citation - WoS: 2Multi-Paradigm Metric and Its Applicability on Java Projects(Budapest Tech, 2013) Misra, Sanjay; Cafer, Ferid; Akman, Ibahim; Fernandez-Sanz, Luis; Physiotherapy Program; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 11. Department of Therapy and Rehabilitation; 01. Atılım UniversityJAVA is one of the favorite languages amongst software developers. However, the numbers of specific software metrics to evaluate the JAVA code are limited In this paper, we evaluate the applicability of a recently developed multi paradigm metric to JAVA projects. The experimentations show that the Multi paradigm metric is an effective measure for estimating the complexity of the JAVA code/projects, and therefore it can be used for controlling the quality of the projects. We have also evaluated the multi-paradigm metric against the principles of measurement theory.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 7The Role of Leadership Cognitive Complexity in Software Development Projects: an Empirical Assessment for Simple Thinking(Wiley, 2011) Akman, Ibrahim; Misra, Sanjay; Cafer, Ferid; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 01. Atılım UniversitySimple thinking (or simplicity) is a way of coping with complexity. It is especially important in the software development process (SDP), which is an error-prone, time-consuming, and complex activity. This article investigates the role of the thinking style-namely, simple thinking-which has been found effective in solving complicated problems during software development. For this purpose, it reviews and discusses simplicity issues from a general perspective and, then, reports the findings of a survey concerning the assessment of simplicity in SDP. The survey was conducted among information and communication technologies senior professionals and managers from government and private-sector organizations. Relevant hypotheses have been developed under different empirical categories for analysis. Statistical analysis techniques were then used to draw inferences based on these hypotheses. The results have proved simplicity to have a significant role in the SDP to a certain extent. School Of Engineering; 01. Atılım UniversityThere are many metrics for evaluating the quality of codes written in different programming languages. However, no efforts have been done to propose metrics for Python, which is an important and useful language especially for the software development for the embedded systems. In this present work, we are trying to investigate all the factors, which are responsible for increasing the complexity of code written in Python language. Accordingly, we have proposed a unified metric for this language. Practical applicability of the metric is demonstrated on a case study.Master Thesis Yazılım Kodunun Karmaşıklığının Değerlendirilmesi(2010) Cafer, Ferid; Akman, Kamil İbrahim; Misra, Sanjay; Computer Engineering; 06. School Of Engineering; 01.
