John Arden'ın Çavuş Musgrave'in Dansı ve Edward Bond'un Kuzeye Giden İnce Yol'unda epik tiyatro unsurları

Abstract

Bu tezin amacı John Arden'ın Çavuş Musgrave'in Dansı ve Edward Bond'un Kuzeye Giden İnce Yol oyunlarındaki epik tiyatro unsurlarının nasıl ele alındığını ve epik tiyatro konseptinin iki yazarın oyunlarına nasıl uyarladığını incelemektir. Tezin teori bölümünde bu tiyatro türünün ortaya çıkışı, geleneksel tiyatrodan hangi yönleriyle ayrıldığı, ele aldığı konular ve Bertolt Brecht'in geliştirdiği epik tiyatro unsurları ayrıntılı olarak açıklanmıştır. Çavuş Musgrave'in Dansı ve Kuzeye Giden İnce Yol adlı oyunlardaki epik tiyatro unsurları açıklanmış ve oyunlarda epik tiyatro kavramının bu yazarlar tarafından nasıl ele alındığı incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak Britanya'da epik tiyatronun en önemli temsilcileri olarak kabul edilen John Arden ve Edward Bond oyunlarında epik tiyatronun unsurlarından faydalanmışlardır. İki yazar da sosyal ve politik konuları ele alarak yabancılaştırma yöntemi ile seyirci üzerinde eleştirel bir bakış açısı oluşturmaya çalışmıştır. Edward Bond Kuzeye Giden İnce Yol adlı oyununda John Arden'dan farklı olarak kendisinin Aggro-Effect olarak tanımladığı bir unsur kullanmıştır. Bu unsur ile sahnede gösterilen şiddetin yarattığı şok ve saldırganlık gibi duygular üzerinden epik tiyatronun da oluşturmak istediği sorgulama sürecine seyirciyi yönlendirmeyi hedeflemiştir.

This thesis aims to examine how elements of epic theatre in John Arden's Serjeant Musgrave's Dance and Edward Bond's Narrow Road to the Deep North are handled and how epic theatre concept is adapted to the plays of the two authors. In the theoretical part, the emergence of this type of theatre, how it differs from the traditional theatre, the subjects it deals with and epic theatre elements developed by Bertolt Brecht are explained in detail. Epic theatre elements in the plays Serjeant Musgrave's Dance and Narrow Road to the Deep North are explained, and how these playwrights in the plays handle the concept of epic theatre is analysed. As a result, in their plays, John Arden and Edward Bond, who are considered the most important representatives of epic theatre in Britain, make use of epic theatre elements. Both playwrights have tried to create a critical perspective on the audience by using alienation in their plays while addressing to social and political issues. Unlike John Arden, Edward Bond uses an effect that he has described as Aggro-Effect in his play Narrow Road to the Deep North. This element aims to direct the audience to the questioning process that epic theatre also wanted to create, through the emotions such as shock and aggression caused by violence on the stage.
