The aim of Atılım University Department of Tourism Management is to train tourism managers who are able to compete at an international level by offering quality education opportunities. Graduates employed as managers in the fields of accommodation, travel, catering, gastronomy, transportation, congress, conference organization begin their professional life while they are still interns. The academic staff consists of faculty members who are experts in their field, as well as sector professionals. With five years of education including the preparatory English courses offered, the courses of the department are in English. The course program consists of applied and theoretical courses devised with respect to the global trends in tourism. Students perform their internship studies at hotel chains, A-Class travel agencies and professional tourism companies. Our Department is in contract with universities abroad within the scope of the Erasmus student Exchange program. With its quality of education documented by TURAK (Tourism Education, Evaluation and Accreditation Board), Atılım university Department of Tourism Management is the first undergraduate program in Turkey to hold the accreditation.

Abstract

Zincir ve uluslararası otellerin sunduğu standart hizmetlere karşılık, alternatif olarak 1970'li ve 1980'li yıllarda butik otel kavramının ortaya çıktığı ve hızla yaygınlaştığı görülmektedir. Çalışmanın konusunu oluşturan 'Konaklama sektöründe butik otel trendi: Ankara örneği' butik otellerin hızlı gelişimini ve yaygınlaşmasının altında yatan etkenleri ele almaktadır. Misafirin kendisini özel hissetmesini sağlayan, kendi tarzları ile sundukları konforu ve lüksü, müşterilerine farklı deneyimler yaşatması ve müşteri memnuniyetine odaklanılması, butik otellerin hızla yaygınlaşmasında en önemli etkenler olmuştur. Bunun yanında farklı mimari yapıları, işletme ve pazarlama anlayışları ile dikkat çeken butik oteller, kapasiteleri ile az sayıda tüketici grubuna hitap etmeleri, müşterinin ihtiyaç duyduğu tatil anlayışını sunmaları sayesinde bugün olduğu gibi ilerleyen zamanlarda da daha fazla talep göreceğini göstermektedir. Araştırma 2019 yılında Ankara'da faaliyet gösteren butik otelleri kapsamaktadır. Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı 2018 yılı verilerine göre Ankara'da 11 butik otel faaliyet göstermektedir. Ankara'daki butik oteller farklı ilçelerde bulunmaktadır. Butik oteller arasından istatistiki bilgilere göre müşteri yoğunluğu fazla olan 8 butik otel belirlenmiştir. Bu butik otellerde araştırma sürecinde konaklamış olan müşteriler arasından örneklem olarak seçilmiş 60 kişi ile çalışma yürütülmüştür. Ankara bölgesinde faaliyet gösteren butik otellerin de bölgenin tanıtımına daha faydalı olmaları, turizm gelirlerinin artması amacıyla neler yapabilecekleri konusunda nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden faydalanılarak incelenmiştir.
In exchange for the standard services offered by chain hotels and international hotels, as an alternative in the 1970s and 1980s, the concept of boutique hotels emerged and showed a rapid widespread. The main subject of this work „The hospitality sector boutique hotel trend: Ankara example‟ is a study to investigate the underlying factors that cause the rapid development and expansion of boutique hotels. Making the guest feel special, offering comfort and luxury, providing different experiences with their unique styles, with their focused customer satisfaction has been some of the causes of the boutique hotels‟ popularity. The boutiqe hotels show architectural variety. The boutique hotels demand attention with their unique operations systems and diverse marketing styles. Their capacity for addressing a small number of consumer groups increased their capability to offer what the consumer needs throughout their stay. Therefore, their place in this industry is cemented for now and future. The presented research covered the active eleven boutique hotels in Ankara in 2019. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism provided the researcher whit the names of the current eleven boutique hotels in operation. Since the boutiqe hotels in Ankara were in different districts fort his study, eight boutique hotels with high customer density were determined. Sixty customers who stayed in the selected eight boutique hotels were contacted, and their responses were used to afford input in this study. This qualitative researh was based on increased regional familiarity towards the improvement in the tourism income in Ankara. Boutique hotels operating in Ankara, were studied to provide benefit to the region and to improve the area‟s tourism income.
