Abstract

Turkey has a high level of oil and natural gas consumption, however she imports a large proportion of these two energy sources. The purpose of this study is to analyze the oil market in Turkey and the world, and to financially evaluate an investment project realized in this market. In this thesis, principles and operation of the oil market have been investigated and a feasibility survey of an oil investment project has been performed. Commercial analysis methods such as net present value and internal rate of return; and risk analysis methods such as sensitivity and break-even point have been utilized in the case study section. The analysis of Turkey associated with the same investment has been conducted in the second part of the case study. Thus, the present regulations and the new draft oil law have been compared and the advantages and disadvantages have been discussed. In this study, the need to speed up the exploration activities in order to boost oil and natural gas production and to increase the proportion of local sources in energy consumption is emphasized. The practical functionality of the new draft oil law, which has been introduced instead of the discouraging current regulation, and the necessity of an investor-encouraging energy tax arrangement are also highlighted.Key Words1.Oil Industry2.International Oil Contracts3.Investment Decisions4.Oil Law5.New Draft Oil Law6.Project Analysis
