dc.description.abstract AC and DC voltage controller parameters of 12 pulse STATCOM consisting of 2-VSCs and its passive LC filter parameters are optimized by non-linear and non-gradient Simplex method. Each optimization problem is based on a goal function with different performance indices. After optimization process, step response performance of AC and DC voltage controller of STATCOM, each having a PI controller cascaded with a lead/lag compensator, has been tested in PSCAD/EMTDC. Fast and absolute responses have been received from STATCOM control system which is connected to a 154 kV line. Moreover with the proposed method, parameters of LC filter connected to AC side of STATCOM have been optimized to keep total harmonic distortion under international standards, even at low switching frequencies. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2011. en_US
