Abstract

This study aims to analyze the energy politics of Turkey. In addition to an extensive literature review and archival research, in-depth interview with relevant actors, has formed the basis of this thesis project. Considering that Turkey's energy consumption exceeds its domestic supplies, the country remains dependent on foreign sources of energy. The country's geographical location between major producers and consumers of energy translates into an aspiration to serve as an energy corridor and hub in the region. Turkey tries to diversify its energy sources to reduce its dependence on foreign sources. The investments of Turkey for alternative and renewable energy sources are positive developments. However, it has to take new steps to be able to reduce its dependence on foreign sources. Turkey has to sustain its investments on research & development in renewable and alternative energy sources. Also, it has keep up the ration of national investments for those energy sources. Otherwise, it cannot end its dependence on foreign sources even if it diversifies the countries that the energy sources are exported to.
