Abstract
Shopping malls have been indispensable socializing places of the last century. Especially the welcoming and meeting places of shopping centers function as the city square, in other words, the heart of the shopping center, as a result of the changing social-cultural needs. These spaces, located at the main entrance and welcoming the user, provide the users with the opportunity to socialize while giving the first impression of the identity/image of the shopping center as a common interior space. One of the most important places of the shopping center is a welcoming and meeting place; it is important to be able to offer a development proposal for this common interior space, which only offers the opportunity to socialize without consuming by examining the relationship between the place organization and user expectations. For this purpose, the expectations of the users, the spatial characteristics of the welcoming and meeting places, and the contribution of this place to the socialization of the users were examined. This review was evaluated with a survey conducted with 100 users over the Kuzu Effect Shopping Center, which was completed in Ankara in 2019.The contribution of the welcoming and meeting place, which is the common interior space of the shopping center, to the needs of the users in terms of socialization is examined. In this context, in line with the theoretical framework, observation and survey results, it has contributed to the discipline of interior architecture in terms of spatial fiction by trying to understand the demands of the users for the common interior space.
