Abstract
Anahtar Kelimeler: Havaalanı kaplama tasarımı, FAA (Amerika Sivil Havacılık Dairesi) Yöntemi, Corps of Engineers Yöntemi
In this study, the factors which effect flexible and rigid pavement thicknesses of civil and military airports are examined in a wide range. These main factors are specified as follows ;-Soil bearing strength-Design aircraft (weight and gear type)-Annual design aircraft equivalent passes-Properties of materials to be usedCorps of Engineers method for military airports and Federal Aviation Administration method for civil airports have been used for the determination of pavement thicknesses and further evaluations. In this scope, totally 3306 different sets of thickness calculations are evaluated for both rigid and flexible pavements with the Corps of Engineers and Federal Aviation Administration methods. In the study; the results obtained through the application of these two methods for flexible and rigid pavements were evaluated and compared with each other. Analysis with Federal Aviation Administration method gave higher pavement thicknesses than Corps of Engineers method for both rigid and flexible pavement designs. Flexible pavement needs more thickness than rigid pavements for the weak subgrade conditions. Rigid pavement was observed to be more suitable for the low subgrade strength in view of the results of the case study. Keywords: Airport pavement design, Federal Aviation Administration, Corps of Engineers
