Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of obesity on core stabilization, core endurance, aerobic capacity, inspiratory muscle strength, fatigue and quality of life. 60 participants aged between 18-50 and BMI (Body Mass Index) values between 18.5-34.9 were included in the study. Participants were divided into 3 groups according to their BMI: normal weight, overweight and obese. All evaluations were performed once by the same physiotherapist. In the study, Stabilizing biofeedback device for core stabilization evaluation, McGill endurance tests for core endurance evaluation, Powerbreathe K5 device for inspiratory muscle strength evaluation, 6-minute walk test for aerobic capacity evaluation, Effect of Weight on Quality of Life Questionnaire for quality of life evaluation and Fatigue Severity Scale for fatigue evaluation was used. As a result of the evaluation, while there was no difference between the groups in terms of core stabilization (p>0.05), there was a difference in core endurance tests (p<0.05). It was observed that there was a difference in quality of life between the normal weight group and the overweight and obese groups (p<0.05). No significant results were found between the groups in fatigue and inspiratory muscle strength parameters (p>0.05). There was a difference between the normal weight group and the overweight and obese groups in terms of 6-minute walk test distance (p<0.05). Our results showed that obesity has effects on aerobic capacity, quality of life and core endurance. Our study results suggest that it would be useful to consider aerobic capacity, quality of life and core endurance in the evaluation of obese individuals and the planing of rehabilitation programs.
