Founded in 1997, the Department of Economics is among the founding departments of our University. The Department offers two extensive undergraduate programs, either in English or in Turkish. Our undergraduate programs are catered to developing our students’ skills of analytical thinking, and to practical education. In this regard, the Social Sciences Research and Training Laboratory, founded under the guidance of our department, offers hands-on training to our own students, students and academicians from other universities, and public institutions. Our Department also offers a Graduate Degree Program in Applied Economy and a Doctorate Degree Program in Political Economy for graduates of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Abstract

Girişimcilik tüm dünyada giderek artmaktadır (Westfall, 2020). Son on yıldır, girişimler dünyanın birçok yerinde artan bir ilgi görmektedir. Pakistan ve Türkiye'de de girişim sayısı katlanarak arttı. Bu makale Pakistan ve Türkiye'deki startup girişimcilerinin mevcut durumunu analiz etmektedir. Bu çalışmanın iki hedefi vardır: birincisi, Pakistan ve Türkiye'de 2017-2021 döneminde girişimcilerin karşılaştığı zorlukları belirlemek, ikincisi de girişimcilerin bu zorlukların üstesinden gelmeleri için çözümler geliştirmektir. Analizde, iki ülkedeki girişimcilerin kurucuları, yatırımcıları ve temsilcileriyle yapılan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden toplanan veriler kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca, bu alanda mevcut bilimsel literatürün yeterince kullanılmış olması da analiz sonuçlarının doğruluğuna ve kolaylıkla yorumlanmasına yardımcı olmuştur.
Entrepreneurship all around the world is on the rise (Westfall, 2020). In the last decade, startups have been receiving increased attention in many parts of the World. In Pakistan and Turkey, the number of startups has also increased at an exponential pace. This paper analyzes the current state of startup entrepreneurs in Pakistan and Turkey. The paper has two goals: firstly, it aims to address the challenges faced by startup entrepreneurs in Pakistan and Turkey during the period of 2017-2021, secondly, to find solutions for these entrepreneurs to overcome these challenges. The analysis uses data collected from semi-structures interviews of founders, investors and representatives of startups in the two countries. Moreover, the use of appropriate literature in abundance reinforces the strength of the results and helps in interpreting them with ease.
