Yoğurt Kültürü Elde Edilmesi Üzerinde Araştırmalar

Araştırma, yoğurt imalatlzanelerinin, )ioğurt kültürü gereksinmelerine cevap verebilmek amacıyla vapılmıştır. i49 yo<~urt numull1esinden hoş lezzet ve ı£ygun aromada olan ve bakteriyoskopide yakııı sayıda kok ve çomaklan kapsadıkları lespit edilen Ankara'- dan 42, ırlanbul'dan 10, Eskişehir'den 2, Denidi'den 2 ve AJjıon'dan i adet olmak üzere 57 yoğurt numunesi denemey'e alındı. Bu numunelerden 94 Lactobacillııs bul,!J,aricusve J 2 i Streptococcus thermop/zilus suşu iaantifiye edildi. En aktif olan 20 şer adedi seçılerek laboratuvar ı-e lInalathane koşullannda, ~ı;oğurt.yapımında denendi. Suşların aayanıklı hale getirilmesinde en i.yi neıice % 8 saHaraz kapsayan, % 20 kum maddeli konsantre J'üt ortamında üretılen kültürlere '/0 1.5 sodyum glutamat ilavesiyle ve -40cC de dondurulduktan sonra liyofiliza~)'011u ile elde edildi. B~ylelikle hazırlanar. tek re miks liı'ofilize kültürlerin en az altı a)i süreyle imalathane koşullarında )'oğurt kültürü hazırlamak amac~J'la kullanılabileceği sap.andı.
İneklerde Hipokalsemi ile Seyreden Docum Felci Olgularının Sacıtımı Üzerinde Çalışmalar

Bu çalışma tamamı doğumu izleyen 29.81 =ı= 3.85 saatte şekillenen hipokalsemik doğum felcine yakalanmış 27 inek ü;:;erindeyapıldı. Sağıtım amacıyla total i 1.29 gr. kalsiyum içeren Calphon isimli preparat bütün hayvanlara damar içi yolla enjekte edildi. Enjeksiyondan önce, 5, i O, 15, 20. ve sağıtımı izleyen 20. dakikalarda kan ö'rnekleri alınarak kalp, atımları, solUnum sayıları, rektal ve dış beden ısısı hayvanın yatma durumu klinik olarak kontrol edildi. Labratuvara iletilen kan örneklerinde serum kalsiyum, magne;:;- yum anorganik fosfor ve kan gliko;:; degerleri araştırıldı. Sağıtım ö'ncesinde serum kalsiyum değerleri ort. %4' 17 =ı= 0.38 mg. olarak, sağıtımı ideyen 20. dakikada ise % 10.9 =ı= 0.57 mg. olarak saptandı. Serum kalsiyum değerleri arasında hipokalsemiye bağlı olarak % 3 mg.ın altında değerler saptandı ise de bunların tümü kalsiyum enjeksiyonlarına cevap vererek tam bir iyileşme gösterdiler. Serum mağnez:,yum ortalamaları sağıtım ö'ncesinde % 0.235 =ı= 0.2 mg, sonrasında ise 2.91 =ı= 0.18 mg olarak saptandı. Bu iki değer arasındaki istatistik fark önemli isede olgularımı;:;da hastalığın serum mağnez:,yum değerlerini fada etkilemedi.~i kanısındayı;:;. Olgularımı;:; arasında sağıtıma bağlı olarak serum anorganik fosfor değerleri % 2.16 =ı= 0.33 mg.dan, % 3.57 =ı= 0.37 mg açıktı. Bulgularımı;:;a göre kalsiyum boroglukonat enjeksiyonundan 20. dakika sonra alınan kan örneklerinde anorganik fosfor tayini prognoz yönünden önem taşımaktadır. Hipokalsemili ineklerde açlık kan şekeri ortalaması ise sağıtım öncesinde % 93. 14 =ı= 8.79 mg. olarak saptandı. Kan gliko;:; degeri bu sağıtım süresince . önemli driğişme göstermedi.
Boğa Spermasındaki Bakteriyel Flora Ya Chloramphenicol Ye Ampicilline'in Etkısı

Bu araştırmada, Sodyum Sitrat --i- Yumurta Sarısı ile sulandırılmış boğa spermasma katılan ampicilline ve chloramphenieol'un bakteriyel flora niteliğine olan etkileri inceledi. Bu antibiyotikler sulandırılmış boğa spermasının ml sine 50, 100, 200,400,800,1000 mcg düşecek düzeyde katıldı. Bu düzeylerde antibiyotik içeren iirneklerden yapılan ekimler sonunda 400 mcg /ml üstündeki dozaj düzeylerinde bakteriyel iiremenin olmadığı saptanmıştır. Değişik düzeylerde antibiyotik içeren sperma örneklerinden uygun besi yerlerine yapılan ekimler sonucu Staph. epidermidis, C. renale, E. coli, Serratia marcescens ve Corynebacterium sp. mikroorganizmalan izole ve identifiye edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak sulandmimiş boğa spermalanna 400 mcg ımı. dan fazla, 1000 mcg'a kadar ampicil/ine veya chloramphenicol katTlmasTllTll spermatozoa motifitesini bozmadığı ve bakteriyel üremeyi durdurduğu anlaşilnl1ştır.
Süt ve Ringer Sulandırıcılarıyla Sulandırılan Erbro Horoz Spermlarının Dölverimi Üzerinde Araştırmalar

Bu çalışmada, 20 horoz (Erbro) ve 120 lavuk kullantlnllşlir. 2-3 gün araliklarla herbir horozdan 5'er kez masaj yöntemiyle sperma almdı ve toplam 100 ejakülaııa spermatolojik değerler incelendi. Spermamn saptanan başliea özellikleri, ejakülat miktan (cm}) ,!'permalozoon moıilitesi (%) ve yo/funluğu (x i09/ cm3) olup, bu değerler sırasiyle 0.58, 79.4 ve 3.2 ı8 olarak bulunmuşıur. Horozlar, spermalar1ıı1l1motil spermatozoa oranlanna göre yüksek, orta ve düşük olarak smulandmlip (A, B ve C) gruplara aynlnllş, her gruptaki horozlar1l1 spermalan birleştirilerek süt ve Ringer sulandmeilanyla sulandmldıktan sonra tohumlamada kul/amlnllştır. Tohumlar, hel' tohumlama dozunda yüz milyon motil spermalozoa (0,02 cc) bulunacak şekilde uygulannuştır. Sütle sulandmlan sperma ile yapilan tolnOI1- lamalardan elde edilen 345, Ringerle sulandmıandan ise 425 yumurta kuluçkaya konmuştur. ı7. güııdeki döl/ülük ile kuluçkadanpkış oranlan sırasiyle süt ve Riligel' sulandmClları için % 60.28, 51, Oi ve % 59.05, 49.41 olmuştur. Motil spermatozoa oranlarına göre gruplandmlan horozıann döl/iiliik ve kuluçka çıkış oranlan arasmda önemli hir fark sapıanamanllşlıl'.
Improvement of Mechanical Properties of Unsaturated Polyesters by Acrylonitrile

Propylene glycol- and diethylene glycol-based unsaturated polyesters were prepared and hardened by using styrene and acrylonitrile monomer mixtures. The addition of 12% acrylonitrile to a propylene glycol-based polyester containing 40% styrene increased the hardness from 12 BHN to 26 BHN. The addition of 20% acrylonitrile increased the impact strength of the same polyester from 14 J/m width to 39 J/m width. The diethylene glycol-based polyester containing 40% styrene and 40% acrylonitrile achieved a hardness of 23 BHN and an impact strength of 59 J/m width.
Flame Retardance and Mechanical Properties of 1,3 Propylene Glycol Based Unsaturated Polyester

Flame retardance properties of 1,3 propylene glycol based unsaturated polyester containing 40% styrene and 20% acrylonitrile were investigated. The polyester with 12% Br content is self-extinguishing while others with lower bromine contents burn slowly. The high decrease in mechanical strength due to the presence of bromine is highly compensated by acrylonitrile.

Delayed Effect of Denervation on Wound Contraction in Rat Skin

Neuronal supply in soft tissues may be an important part of cutaneous wound healing. In order to observe the effect of denervation on wound contraction, rectangular full-thickness skin defects were created on the dorsum of two groups of Wistar rats. In the experimental group (n = 20), spinal nerves corresponding to the area of the open wound (T11 to L2) were isolated and divided bilaterally. In the control group (n = 20), the same pairs of spinal nerves were dissected but left intact. Limits of denervation were verified by the pinprick test. Wound healing, which is primarily in the form of wound contraction in this model, was evaluated by tracing wound margins onto millimetric paper weekly. Wound contraction was delayed significantly in the experimental group (p < 0.05) at all follow-up periods when compared with the controls. Loss of neuropeptide secretion from the nerve endings in denervated tissues may be responsible for the retarded wound contraction, since neuropeptides are thought to exert trophic effects on skin wound healing.

In this regard, the Social Sciences Research and Training Laboratory, founded under the guidance of our department, offers hands-on training to our own students, students and academicians from other universities, and public institutions. Our Department also offers a Graduate Degree Program in Applied Economy and a Doctorate Degree Program in Political Economy for graduates of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
International Relations

The Atılım University Department of International Relations was founded in 1997. International relations is a field of science where the relations among states, organizations and other players in the international system are researched and observed. The field of international relations is also an interdisciplinary field, combining areas such as economy, history and political science to research on topics such as human rights, global poverty, environment, economy, globalization, security and global ethics. Offering three Graduate Degree programs in addition to the undergraduate program, the Department of International Relations continues to graduate individuals from its Graduate Degree Program in European Union Studies, as well as its Graduate Degree programs in Turkish and English.

I am proud of saying that we now have three fully-fledged graduate studies offering programmes in English, Turkish or both. Currently, we have International Relations MA Programme in both Turkish and English and European Union MA Programme in Turkish.

Founded in 1997, the Department of English Language and Literature is one of the first Departments of Atılım University. Through the graduate and doctorate degree programs in addition to the undergraduate program, the Department raises students and academicians. At the Department of English Language and Literature, we aim to graduate students who have studied and learned the English language and literature at an advanced level and developed the skill to produce ideas; as well as the ability to do analyses and academic research on literature. In addition to granting our students with the opportunity to develop their backgrounds in general culture, the education that we offer contributes to their interest and knowledge in contemporary and current issues. Accredited for 5 years from February 24th 2019 by FEDEK, our undergraduate program grants our students the opportunity to join Double-Major or Minor programs in Translation and Interpretation, and International Relations. Another option for the students of our Department is the Erasmus Exchange Program.

Eicosanoids and Inflammatory Cells in Frostbitten Tissue: Prostacyclin, Thromboxane, Polymorphonuclear Leukocytes, and Mast Cells

The pathophysiology of cold injury is still controversial. An inflammatory process has been implicated as the underlying mechanism and certain anti-inflammatory substances such as ibuprofen and acetylsalicylic acid have been used in the clinical treatment of frostbite injury. It has been postulated that the progressive ischemic necrosis is secondary to excessive thromboxane A2 production, which upsets the normal balance between prostacyclin (prostaglandin I2) and thromboxane A2. It was aimed to clarify the pathophysiology of cold injury in this study. Twenty-one New Zealand White rabbits, each weighing 1.2 to 2.9 kg, were divided into control (n = 10) and frostbitten (n = 11) groups the randomly. The rabbit ears in the frostbitten group were subjected to cold injury, and the levels of thromboxane A2 (as thromboxane B2) and of prostaglandin I2 (as 6-keto-prostaglandin F1alpha) and the number of inflammatory cells (polymorphonuclear leukocytes and mast cells) were measured in normal and frostbitten skin of rabbit ears. The levels of 6-keto prostaglandin F1alpha and thromboxane B2, the stable metabolites of prostaglandin I2 and thromboxane A2, respectively, were increased in a statistically significant way (p < 0.002) by frostbite injury; however, thromboxane B2 increased more than 6-keto prostaglandin F1alpha. Polymorphonuclear leukocytes and mast cells, absent in normal skin, were present in the frostbitten skin. There was a statistically significant (p < 0.01) correlation between the time a rabbit ear was maintained at below -10 degrees C and skin survival and between the weights of rabbits and skin survival (p < 0.024). All these findings suggest that inflammation is involved in frostbite injury; a decrease in prostaglandin I2/thromboxane A2 ratio could be one of the factors leading to necrosis; the bigger the animal, the better its ability to counter frostbite.

Industrial Engineering is a field of engineering that develops and applies methods and techniques to design, implement, develop and improve systems comprising of humans, materials, machines, energy and funding. Our department was founded in 1998, and since then, has graduated hundreds of individuals who may compete nationally and internationally into professional life. Accredited by MÜDEK in 2014, our student-centered education continues. In addition to acquiring the knowledge necessary for every Industrial engineer, our students are able to gain professional experience in their desired fields of expertise with a wide array of elective courses, such as E-commerce and ERP, Reliability, Tabulation, or Industrial Engineering Applications in the Energy Sector. With dissertation projects fictionalized on solving real problems at real companies, our students gain experience in the sector, and a wide network of contacts. Our education is supported with ERASMUS programs. With the scientific studies of our competent academic staff published in internationally-renowned magazines, our department ranks with the bests among other universities. IESC, one of the most active student networks at our university, continues to organize extensive, and productive events every year.
Optimum Dragline Selection for Strip Coal Mines

A model is presented by means of which the optimal dragline selection may be made. An outline is given of the methodology that was adopted in developing a series of generic algorithms to first define and then formularize the need to extend the working bench under a nat-lying topography and coal seam. Rehandle percentages were calculated for four generalized extended bench geometries, in each of which the percentage rehandle varied according to the relative positions of the extended bench and pit. A set of geometric and simulative equations was developed on which a model for the optimal selection of a dragline was based. Finally, a typical application was tested through the use of data associated with a hypothetical strip-mining operation.

The Atılım University Department of Computer Engineering was founded in 1998. The department curriculum is prepared in a way that meets the demands for knowledge and skills after graduation, and is subject to periodical reviews and updates in line with international standards. Our Department offers education in many fields of expertise, such as software development, hardware systems, data structures, computer networks, artificial intelligence, machine learning, image processing, natural language processing, object based design, information security, and cloud computing. The education offered by our department is based on practical approaches, with modern laboratories, projects and internship programs. The undergraduate program at our department was accredited in 2014 by the Association of Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK) and was granted the label EUR-ACE, valid through Europe. In addition to the undergraduate program, our department offers thesis or non-thesis graduate degree programs (MS).
