Master Thesis Günlüklerine yansıyan Virginia Woolf ve George Eliot dünyasının feminist keşfi(2021) Hadi, Srosht Subhi; Canlı, Sifat Gülsen; Department of English Language and Literature; Department of English Language and Literature; 17. Atılım UniversityThis thesis employs the feminist and psychoanalytical approaches in order to study the diaries of George Eliot and Virginia Woolf who are considered to be the major feminist writers during the nineteenth and early twentieth century. These writers' diaries are studied in order to explore these writers' worlds as well as their life experiences as women in male-dominated societies. In a context which was characterized by the sexist and phallocentric attitudes towards women's role in the society and literary canon, these female prodigies embarked on a quest to find their true self and to assert themselves as accredited women writers. These writers' quest for self-assertion, however, was imbued with various intervals of hope and despondency, but, in spite of various obstacles, they remained persistent to free themselves from the shackles of patriarchy and to define their own notion of womanhood. Hence, they were able to initiate a path towards New Women's intellectual awareness and their liberty from the psychological, economic and literary hegemony of patriarchy.
