Book Part Citation - Scopus: 4Stress, Coping, and Social Media Use(IGI Global, 2022) Demirtepe-Saygılı, D.Social media has become a part of people’s lives and many psychological processes are suggested to be related with social media use. This chapter examines social media use from a stress and coping perspective. Social media can be a stressor for users with the content of posts they see, with a fear of negative evaluation, as an unhealthy attachment to social media accounts, and as a result of cyberbullying. Social media use can also be a problem-focused coping as a source of information, an emotion-focused coping as a distraction, and a source of social support. Lastly, it can be a predictor or a part of well-being as well as a moderator or mediator between coping and well-being. After elaborating on social media use as a part of the coping process, implications for research and practice are discussed. The key points from a coping viewpoint are specified for users, parents, teachers, and professionals. While problematic use of social media can be part of dysfunctional coping and a worse well-being, healthy use can help individuals deal with stresses and lead to a better well-being. © 2022 by IGI Global. As managers spend a significant portion of their time dealing with routine complaints, hiring and retrenchment decisions, and the pressures imposed by a fast-paced, highly competitive marketplace, it is crucial to develop proactive behavior to identify and resolve conflicts before they escalate. While conflict has been studied primarily in the fields of business, sociology, and psychology, the definition of conflict remains elusive, given its wide range of concepts. This study seeks to shed light on the multifaceted nature of conflict and the role of proactive behavior in preventing and managing conflicts. The study evaluated the precursors of proactivity in terms of personality and behavior, different types of conflict, conflict management, and resolution approaches, and the potential negative consequences of excessive proactivity without sufficient situational judgement effectiveness. The number of indications in dermatology has been increasing in recent years. JAK inhibitors are largely metabolized by the liver. Therefore, drug–drug interactions may occur when used with cytochrome P450 and CYP2C19 inhibitors or inducers, and drug dosages should be adjusted or not used together. In addition, OAT-3 inhibitors, which are known to play a role in renal elimination, interact with some JAK inhibitors, and dose adjustment is recommended. Although quinones have an oxygen group in their structure, they are quickly oxidized and interact with reactive oxygen species. This demonstrates how quinones work as drugs. Quinones and their derivatives are used as medications to treat a wide range of diseases, including cancer, lung, kidney, brain, and tumor disorders. Despite the harsh criticism targeting her minimalist and simple writing style embellished with her own illustrations, Kaur makes her voice heard throughout the world via the Internet- especially the social media- by sharing her poems on the Instagram. The poet divided her milk and honey (2014), into four parts; in each of the four parts which symbolizes a different stage of a woman's life replete with fears, challenges, struggles and hopes, she not only talks about the sufferings of women and female empowerment but also with her illustrations, she attracts many readers visually. Hence, this chapter analyses Rupi Kaur's milk and honey from a feminist perspective by focusing on victimization and commodification of women as well as women empowerment with regard to her non- traditional writing style. © 2023 Peter Lang Group AG, Lausanne. All rights reserved.Book Part Live Like Cockroaches: a Homeless Immigrant's Struggle Leading To Stereotypification(Peter Lang Publishing Group, 2024) Turgut, Z.R.The use of cockroaches as a metaphor to describe the conditions of immigrants in immigrant literature is a problematic and controversial topic. It is a form of dehumanization that reduces individuals to pests or insects and constitution of demeaning stereotypes and xenophobia. The use of this metaphor can be traced back to colonial and racist attitudes towards non-white, non-Western individuals who were often depicted as primitive, dirty, and inhuman. This view which was used to justify colonialism and segregation is still prevailing in contemporary society through media and cultural representations. In Rawi Hage's novel Cockroach (2008), the use of the cockroach as a metaphor is a central theme throughout the book. The novel tells the story of an unnamed Lebanese immigrant who is struggling to make a new life in Montreal, Canada. The protagonist sees himself as a cockroach, a resilient survivor that can adapt to any environment and cope with any hardship. The cockroach metaphor in this novel might be interpreted in several ways. On the one hand, it can be seen as an indicator of the protagonist's resilience and ability to survive in a hostile and challenging environment. Since the cockroach is known for its ability to survive in harsh conditions, the protagonist sees himself as embodying these traits. On the other hand, the use of the cockroach as a metaphor might also be seen as the representation of the maltreatment of immigrants in Western societies. The protagonist is often marginalized and discriminated, and his identification with the cockroach can be seen as a way of highlighting the way that immigrants are often seen as pests or insects by mainstream society. Thus, the aim of this chapter is to examine Rawi Hage's novel Cockroach in order to reveal the struggles of immigrants in a new country who try to survive although they face many problems, including isolation, discrimination, poverty, and cultural exclusion. © 2023 Peter Lang Group AG, Lausanne.
