Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 14A Key To the "democratic Opening": Rethinking Citizenship, Ethnicity and Turkish Nation-State(Seta Foundation, 2010) Koker, Levent; LawThis article focuses on the ongoing process of transition in Turkey from a "homogeneous national identity", which produced a notion of "equality as sameness", to a "multiculturalist democracy" that requires a new constitutional system that has a conception of "equality in difference". The organization of this paper is as follows: First a brief evaluation of the Kemalist foundations of the Republic will be provided to establish how the official ideology in Turkey conceives of state-society relations. An evaluation of the persistence of this official ideology under the multiparty political system is provided in the second part. The final part of the paper concentrates on the rising public presence of the Kurdish problem, which is forcing Turkish politics to change its constitutional identity, most notably aided by the process of change driven by EU reforms. The hydrothermal system was isolated from the environment and hydrothermal reactions were allowed to execute at 130 degrees C for 36 h at autogeneous pressure, and at a stirring rate of 250 rpm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that TiO2 nanofibers formed instead of nanotubes upon utilization of amorphous TiO2 precursor. After hydrothermal synthesis, the powders were acid treated by HCl several times. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis identified that the synthesized powders were Na-titanate and remained Na-titanate even after subjecting to acidic treatments several times. The photocatalytic performance of the powders was evaluated by degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution in UV illumination. Results were compared with nanotubes which were synthesized previously using P25 commercial titania powder and have shown that TiO2 in tubular structure offers better photocatalytic performance for the degradation of MB solution under UV illumination as compared to fiber-like structure.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 3Design Considerations for Sub-Ghz Multilayer Microstrip Antenna for Near Ground Communication Links in Rural Areas(Ieee, 2017) Bilgin, Gulsima; Yilmaz, Vadi Su; Aydin, Elif; Kara, Ali; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering; Electrical-Electronics EngineeringThis paper presents some preliminary results of design and development of sub-GHz multilayer microstip antenna for use in near ground communication applications. In design stage of the antenna, iterative approach was applied. Firstly, a two layer microstrip antenna design process is presented. Next, the corners of the patch were cut, and a vertical wall on all sides of the antenna were introduced. In this way, both the size and resonant freqeuncy can be tuned. Moreover, as an application specific requirement, it is intended to embed this antenna into a metal box in order to protect it from man-made and natural environmental effects. This was also studied, and effects of the embedding ground on the antenna characteristics were examined. It is shown that the designed antenna provides -27dB resturn loss, and 7.3dB peak gain at 915MHz with the dimension of 150x200x13mm. Twitter is the most frequently used internet tool in the hands of institutions, decision makers, and leaders in foreign policy making. US President Donald J. Trump is one of the leaders who use Twitter most effectively. Twitter was the center of Trump's messages, both during the presidential campaign and after his election. Trump is not just using Twitter as a platform for meeting his supporters and announcing the country's official policies. Twitter has also been an important way for Trump to challenge and send harsh messages to certain countries, companies, and individuals. Iran is one of the countries that Trump targets through Twitter. The data collected (April to October 2020) included specific measures for each experimental study, a general questionnaire examining health prevention behaviors and COVID-19 experience, geographical and cultural context characterization, and demographic information for each participant. Each participant started the study with the same general questions and then was randomized to complete either one longer experiment or two shorter experiments. Data were provided by 73,223 participants with varying completion rates. Participants completed the survey from 111 geopolitical regions in 44 unique languages/dialects. The anonymized dataset described here is provided in both raw and processed formats to facilitate re-use and further analyses. The dataset offers secondary analytic opportunities to explore coping, framing, and self-determination across a diverse, global sample obtained at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which can be merged with other time-sampled or geographic data.Article Citation - WoS: 32Citation - Scopus: 39A Computationally Efficient Method for Hybrid Eeg-Fnirs Bci Based on the Pearson Correlation(Hindawi Ltd, 2020) Hasan, Mustafa A. H.; Khan, Muhammad U.; Mishra, DeeptiA hybrid brain computer interface (BCI) system considered here is a combination of electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). EEG-fNIRS signals are simultaneously recorded to achieve high motor imagery task classification. This integration helps to achieve better system performance, but at the cost of an increase in system complexity and computational time. In hybrid BCI studies, channel selection is recognized as the key element that directly affects the system's performance. In this paper, we propose a novel channel selection approach using the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, where only highly correlated channels are selected from each hemisphere. Then, four different statistical features are extracted, and their different combinations are used for the classification through KNN and Tree classifiers. As far as we know, there is no report available that explored the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient for hybrid EEG-fNIRS BCI channel selection. The results demonstrate that our hybrid system significantly reduces computational burden while achieving a classification accuracy with high reliability comparable to the existing literature.Article Citation - WoS: 19Citation - Scopus: 19Temperature-Dependent Band Gap Characteristics of Bi12sio20< Single Crystals(Amer inst Physics, 2019) Isik, M.; Delice, S.; Gasanly, N. M.; Darvishov, N. H.; Bagiev, V. E.Bi12SiO20 single crystals have attracted interest due to their remarkable photorefractive characteristics. Since bandgap and refractive index are related theoretically to each other, it takes much attention to investigate temperature dependency of bandgap energy to understand the behavior of photorefractive crystals. The present study aims at investigating structural and optical characteristics of photorefractive Bi12SiO20 single crystals grown by the Czochralski method. The structural characterization methods indicated that atomic composition ratios of constituent elements were well-matched with the chemical compound Bi12SiO20, and grown crystals have a cubic crystalline structure. Optical properties of crystals were investigated by room temperature Raman spectroscopy and temperature-dependent transmission measurements between 10 and 300 K. The analyses of transmittance spectra by absorption coefficient and derivative spectrophotometry techniques resulted in energy bandgaps decreasing from 2.61 to 2.48 eV and 2.64 to 2.53 eV as temperature was increased from 10 to 300 K. The Varshni model was applied to analyze temperature-bandgap energy dependency.
