Conference Object Citation - WoS: 16Citation - Scopus: 18Determinants of Entry in Turkish Manufacturing Industries(Springer, 2006) Gunalp, Burak; Cilasun, Seyit MuminThe entry of new firms into markets plays an important role in efficient resource allocation and evolution for long term economic growth. Employing dynamic panel data techniques, this paper investigates entry behavior in 66 four-digit Turkish manufacturing industries for the 1993-1999 period. The results of this paper suggest that potential entrants observe the market before the entry takes place; entry is, in general, a follow-up process; and incumbent firms seem to collude to prevent entry in Turkish manufacturing industries. In addition, the real interest rate appears to be a very important determinant of entry decision.Conference Object F-Actor: a Multiagent Gaming Environment for Controlling Virtual Flow Networks(Univ Wolverhampton, 2008) Ocal, Ilter Kagan; Cevik, Ahmet; Cereci, Ibrahim; Kilic, Hurevren; Computer EngineeringA gaming environment that enables agent-based local control of a configurable virtual flow network is developed. The gaming software what we call F-Actor provides a graph-based discrete virtual control environment on which user-developed controller agents reside and act according to their assigned design goals. Runtime performances of user-developed controller agent codes are made observable through a graphical user interface. The proposed game can be played by different developers having different level of control and programming knowledge. By playing with F-Actor, engineers (or students) can make practices on a virtual flow environment and try alternative intelligent control algorithms before their potential implementations on field.Article Regional Organizations and Conflict Management in Africa: the Case of the African Union and Conflict Management in Kenya(Hale Sivgin, 2008) Uchehara, Kieran E.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effectiveness of the AU's conflict management in Kenya. Even though it has attempted to mediate, its impact on the crisis was not profound, as it has paid less attention to the questions of crisis management and dialog. The paper argues that the AU appears reluctant to intervene in the crisis. It recommends that the AU would be a more effective conflict manager if it were institutionalized, if it had members with homogenous preferences, and if it had more democratic members. Institutionalized and homogenous organizations are better suited for effective conflict management, while democratic organizations support lasting settlements in favor of the issue's status quo. It concludes that the AU's reluctance to intervene in Kenya is partly due to mistrust between its member states as most of the African leaders came to power through the rigging of elections. Cognitive complexity measure based on cognitive informatics, plays an important role in understanding the fundamental characteristics of software, therefore directly affects the understandability and maintainability of software systems. In this paper, we compared available cognitive complexity measures and evaluated cognitive weight complexity measure in terms of Weyuker's properties. © 2008 IEEE.Article Unconventional Natural Gas From Abandoned Coal Mines: Modelling and Performance Prediction at the Frankenholz-St. Barbara Mining Complex(The International Journal of Mineral Resources Engineering, 2007) Durucan, Şevket; Shı, Ji-quan; Korre, AnnaThis paper describes a joint research project carried out by Imperial College and Deutsche Steinkohle Aktiengesellschaft (DSK), in which the Imperial College in house gas-water two-phase Coalbed Methane (CBM) simulator was further developed to model abandoned mine methane recovery in the Saar Coalfield. Historical data on mining and methane emissions, as well as the long-term methane production data monitored at the Hangard shaft was used to validate the model developed. A satisfactory match tothe historical and currrent field data was achieved. Predictionsfor future production opportunities were made for the Allenfeld shaft in conjunction with production from the Hangard shaft which has been in production since 1960.Conference Object On the Riemann Integration on Time Scales(Crc Press-taylor & Francis Group, 2004) Guseinov, GS; Kaymakçalan, BIn this paper we introduce and investigate the concepts of Riemann's delta and nabla integrals on time scales. Main theorems of the integral calculus on time scales are proved.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 1Web Privacy: Issues, Legislations, and Technological Challenges(IGI Global, 2008) Mishra,A.; Mishra,D.People all over the world increasingly are concerned about the privacy issues surrounding the personal information collected by private organizations, governments and employers. Privacy relates to issues regarding collection, secure transmission, storage, authorized access, usage, and disclosure of personal information. This information is used for commercial gain by many organizations. Individual privacy concerns significantly affects consumer willingness to engage in electronic commerce over the Internet. The increased use of the Internet and Web for everyday activities is bringing new threats to personal privacy. This chapter assessed various issues related to individual privacy on the Web, growing concerns among the Web users, technologies employed for collecting and protecting information on the Web, privacy-enhancing technologies and the legal provisions to curb the Web privacy. This chapter also reported detailed discussion about Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P), its structure, present scenario of its implementation and its future success. Global consistency on Internet privacy protection is important to promote the growth of electronic commerce. To protect consumers in a globally consistent manner, legislation, self-regulation, technical solutions and combination solutions are different ways that can be implemented. © 2008, IGI Global.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 9Cohomology of Sheaves of Frechet Algebras and Spectral Theory(Pleiades Publishing inc, 2005) Dosiev, AAWe propose a holomorpbic functional calculus for a noncommutative operator family generating a supernilpotent Lie subalgebra. This calculus extends Taylor's holomorphic functional calculus.
