Dual-Frequency, Two Shorting Pin-Loaded Equilateral Triangular Patch Antennas
(Electromagnetics Acad, 2012) Can, Sultan; Kapusuz, K. Yavuz; Aydin, Elif
This study presents the resonant frequencies of several antennas, which are dual-frequency antennas. These antennas possess two shorting pins to form dual frequency. Among several methods to provide dual operation, two shorting pins are used to form dual frequency equilateral triangular antennas since there are limited studies on this issue and higher frequency ratios are achievable. The present study has been done with this in mind in order to contribute to related literature on such antennas. Here, the parameters that affect the resonant frequencies of the antenna are also evaluated. The thickness, side length, and shorting pin positions are changed numerous times, and the resonant frequencies are examined according to the change of these parameters. Finally, the frequency ratios are determined for each variation, and the results are compared. The proposed antennas in present study achieved a frequency ratio around 5.7, which is significantly higher from the ones presented in the literature.

Rectangular Shaped, Dual-Frequency Antenna With a Single Shorting Pin
(Turgut Ozal Univ, 2012) Kapusuz, K. Yavuz; Can, Sultan; Aydin, Elif
In this study, a dual-frequency rectangular patch antenna is demonstrated. The dual frequency operation is obtained via inserting a shorting pin to the rectangular patch coaxial fed antenna. The first and the second resonant frequencies are presented for different substrate, thickness, and side length values. The effect of the shorting pin is also observed and the results are presented. The results obtained from this study are compared with the ones in the literature and satisfactory agreement is obtained. While 4.75% average error is achieved for the first resonant frequency, the average error for the second resonant frequency is 4.49%. The relation of the first and the second resonant frequency with the antenna parameters are evaluated and presented.

    Design and Fabrication of Dual-Frequency H-Shaped Antenna;
    (IEEE, 2013) Dagdeviren,B.; Yavuz Kapusuz,K.; Can,S.; Aydin,E.; Kapusuz, K. Yavuz
In this study, the parameters that effects the operating frequency of dual frequency H-shaped antenna are examined. These parameters are determined as type of the dielectric constant of substrate, substrate thickness, dimensions of the antenna and dimensions of the slots that are used to obtain shape of H. The produced and simulated results of the proposed antennas are presented and compared with the studies in literature. © 2013 IEEE.

A Survey on Lifelong Learning and Project-Based Learning Among Engineering Students
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2014) Kapusuz, K. Yavuz; Can, Sultan
Lifelong learning is a highly important issue that most of the governments emphasize on their education programs. It is commonly known that there are various requirements such as learning how to learn, improving communication skills, teamwork abilities and controlling time-money etc. In order to successful in professional life, besides theoretical knowledge. Most of these mentioned requirements are even needed in our daily life to be able to learn efficiently, in any desired field. This study presents the results of a survey carried out to evaluate engineering students' viewpoints regarding lifelong learning and project-based learning. Their perspective on "learning-by-doing" is also investigated. Several aspects in engineering are considered, and evaluation is formed according to these aspects. The importance of theoretical knowledge, oral and written communication skills, economic perspectives, time and budget control, teamwork abilities, learning-by-project and learning-by-doing are the parameters evaluated in the survey. A descriptive analyze is performed in order to evaluate the engineering students' viewpoint about learning at Atilim University. The proposed survey is conducted with 80 students from Faculty of Engineering and the results are illustrated. Based on results, the main issue that the participants highlight is the need of change in learning methods and they are underlying that they want to get integrated more into real world. This study may help the mentors to design a new curriculum for achieving success in the field, which will also be a pioneer the success in every field of life. (C) 2013 The Authors. Analysis of the Parameters That Effects the Operating Frequencies and Bandwidth of a Cpw-Fed Patch Antenna
(Ieee, 2013) Dagdeviren, Birkan; Kapusuz, K. Yavuz; Can, Sultan; Aydin, Elif
In this study, the analysis of the effect of antenna parameters to the operating frequency is performed in a coplanar waveguide fed patch antenna. The effect of the size and the substrate of the design dual frequency antenna to the operating frequency and bandwidth are also evaluated. Bandwidth of the upper and lower frequency is also investigated and results are demonstrated. The method to increase the bandwidth is also presented by using the chosen parameters.

Reader Antenna Design for Rfid Applications
(Ieee, 2013) Kaynakoz, Goktug; Kilic, N. Koray; Kapusuz, K. Yavuz; Can, Sultan; Aydin, Elif
In this paper, a coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed microstrip patch antenna is designed on finite element method based simulation program and fabricated in order to use reader antenna in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The results of the simulations and the produced antennas are presented in the study. The produced microstrip patch antenna has a 105MHz bandwidth and operates in between 895-1000 MHz.

Modified Resonant Frequency Computation for Tunable Equilateral Triangular Microstrip Patch
(Ieice-inst Electronics information Communications Eng, 2010) Aydin, Elif; Can, Sultan
In this paper, a new closed form expression is developed to accurately estimate the resonant frequency of an equilateral triangular patch. The proposed computation is also extended to the two-layer structure in order to define the air-gap tuning effect on the resonant frequency. The theory established in this paper is compared with the experimental and theoretical results available in the literature. The results of this study show a considerable improvement achieved over the previous theories within very small percentage errors for almost all cases.

Neural Network Based Estimation of Resonant Frequency of an Equilateral Triangular Microstrip Patch Antenna
(Univ Osijek, Tech Fac, 2013) Kapusuz, Kamil Yavuz; Tora, Hakan; Can, Sultan; Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering
This study proposes an artificial neural network (ANN) model in order to approximate the resonant frequencies of equilateral triangular patch antennas. The neural network structure applied here is trained and tested for both single-layer and double-layer antennas. It is shown upon experiment that the resonant frequencies obtained from the neural network are both more accurate than the calculated frequencies by formula and satisfactorily close to the measured frequencies. Results appear to be promising as per the available literature. This paper also may offer more efficient approach to developing antennas of such nature. While the total absolute error of 7 MHz and the average error of 0,09 % are achieved for single-layer antenna, the total absolute and average errors are 49 MHz and 0,07 % for the double-layered antenna, respectively.
