    Synthesis and Electrochemical Polymerization of Dithienosilole-Based Monomers Bearing Different Donor Units

    Three new donor-acceptor-donor (DAD) type monomers containing five membered heteroaromatic rings as the donor units and the silicon-bridged bithiophene as the acceptor unit were synthesized via Stille cross-coupling reaction. The monomers, 2,6-di(furan-2-yl)-4,4-dioctyl-4H-silolo[3,2-b:4,5-b'] dithiophene (FSiF), 4,4-dioctyl-2,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)-4H-silolo[3,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene (TSiT) and 4,4-dioctyl-2,6-di(selenophen-2-yl)-4H-silolo[3,2-b:4,5-b'] dithiophene (SeSiSe) were polymerized electrochemically via potential cycling in acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium perchlorate electrolytic medium. Optical and electrochemical properties of the monomers and their corresponding polymers were investigated and it was found that oxidation potentials of the monomers and optical properties of both monomers and their polymers showed slight variations depending on the heteroatom present in the donor unit.     İNSANOĞLUNUN PLASTİK İLE İMTİHANI

    Staudinger’in makromolekülleri keşfetmesi ile başlayan plastik çağı, 1930’lardan bugüne dünyamızı tamamen ele geçirmiş durumda. Günlük yaşamımıza, mesela sabah evden çıkana dek, şöyle bir göz atalım. Banyoda diş fırçası, havlu, saç kurutma makinesi, traş bıçağı, klozet kapağı, sabunluk-diş fırçalıklar. Mutfakta, ısıya dayanıklı plastik kaşıklar, fırın tutacakları, yapışmaz tavalar, su ısıtıcıları, tencere sapları, ocak düğmeleri, beyaz eşya kapakları, yiyecek ambalajları.. Salonda televizyon kumandası (ve hatta artık ekranları), koltuk süngerleri, sandalyeler, pencere pimapenleri. Evden çıkacakken giydiğimiz ayakkabılar, tokalar, kıyafetler, ceketler. Bunlar evde kullandığımız plastiklerin sadece bir bölümü.

    A New Carborane Based Polymeric Electrochrome

    New electrochromic copolymers of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene and di(m-carboranyl thiophene) were synthesized, characterized and their electro-optical properties were reported. The copolymers were successfully prepared from various monomer feed ratios using electrochemical polymerization technique. It can be conjectured that electrochemical and optical properties of the copolymers can be adjusted by playing with monomer feed ratios. For example, the maximum wavelength of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) at 600 nm can be shifted to lower values (i.e., 522 nm) by increasing the ratio of di(m-carboranyl thiophene) in the monomer mixture. The copolymer films also have low band gap values between 1.69 and 1.82 eV and showed electrochromic properties; purple when neutralized and transparent sky blue when oxidized. Also, during redox switching the films exhibited a percent transmittance change between 32% and 46% with a switching time between 1.0 s and 1.3 s. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Peki bu kadar çok tüketilen suyu ve içecekleri taşıyan plastik şişelerin nasıl üretildiğini biliyor musunuz?

    Plastik hammaddeler pellet veya toz halde elde edildikten sonra, markette karşımıza şekillendirilmiş, renklendirilmiş ve kullanıma hazır eşyalar olarak çıkarlar. Dünya çapında en fazla tüketilen plastikler, polietilen ve polistiren polimerleridir. Özellikle düşük ve yüksek yoğunluklu polietilen seçenekleri, polietilenin günlük hayatta kullanımına yönelik yaygın imkanlar sunar. Polistirenin ise köpük haliyle elde edilebilmesi, bu polimeri paketleme endüstrisinde rakipsiz kılmıştır.

    Electro-Optical Properties of Poly[di(2-Thiophenyl)carborane] and Its Opto-Electronic Application

    Electrochemical and optical properties of a hybrid carborane based polymer called poly(di(2-thiophenyl)carborane) (P1) obtained electrochemically were reported as well as its electrochromic device application. Thiophene donor units and m-carborane acceptor unit were combined under the same umbrella via donor-acceptor-donor approach to obtain di(2-thiophenyl)carborane (1). Contrary to the literature, extreme conditions like highly dried solvent or inert atmosphere were not used for polymerization and characterization. Polymer P1 has an ambipolar character since it exhibited a reversible oxidation peak at a half wave potential (E-1/2) of 1.08 V and a quasi reversible reduction peak at E-1/2 = -1.82 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The polymer film has an optical band gap of 1.95 eV with a maximum absorption band centered at 488 nm. Also, it exhibited multicolor electrochromic behavior between its reduced and oxidized states changing from dark orange to light blue. Furthermore, the electrochromic device prepared based on P1 film was stable and robust. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
