    In Engineering Design course, students' background, knowledge and skills should be considered to stimulate the creativity. Thus, the Analytic Network Process (ANP) has been used in deciding the factor that ignites creativity. However, there is uncertainty and vagueness existing in the judgment of students' need and expectations. Fuzzy ANP approach is used to determine a way in improving the creativity of the students in introductory engineering course. ANP equipped with fuzzy logic helps in overcoming the impreciseness in the preferences. The findings will help the instructor to improve and modify the delivery of the course to meet the course objectives. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

    Küçük ve Orta Bütçeli İşletmeler'in (KOBİler) gelişmesi ve iyileşmesi ülke ekonomisine katkı sağlar. Ancak, KOBİ'ler işletmelerinin iyileşmesi için iş uygulamalarında süreklilik sağlamakta zorlanabilirler. İyileşme karmaşık bir olgudur; örgütsel etmenlerin mevcut durumunun değerlendirilmesi gerekir, bununla birlikte etmenlerin ağırlığı işletme geliştikçe değişecektir. KOBİlerin süreç ve kaynaklarındaki eksikliklerden dolayı KOBİler değerlendirme sırasında zorluklarla karşılaşabilirler.Bu çalışmada, İmalat sektöründe faaliyet gösteren Türk KOBİ'lerinin süreçlerinin iyileşmesi için temel adımları içeren yeni bir model önerilmiştir. Bu iyileştirme adımları süreçlerin tanımlı, yönetilebilir ve ölçülebilir olmasını hedefler. Model, mevcut süreçlerin değerlendirilmesinde referans noktası oluşturur ve iş uygulamalarının önceliklendirilmesinde rehberlik eder. Önerilen yeni modelde çerçeve olarak süreç yönetimini ve kalite iyileştirme kavramlarını içeren Yeterlilik Olgunluk Modeli (CMM) kullanılmıştır.Yeni model ampirik olarak test edilmiş ve modelin Türk İmalat Sanayi KOBİlerinin yapısına ve özelliklerine uyması için gerekli düzeltmeler yapılmıştır. Model, her seviyede tamamlanmış ve eksik aktivitelerin belirlenmesi için bir araç olarak ve işletmenin gelecekteki gereksinimlerini belirlemek için bir yol haritası olarak kullanılabilir.

    Increasing creativity with unusual designs

    Creativity is important in synthesizing new ideas. For the engineering students, there are different methods to increase the level of creativity. Also, the unusual designs stimulate the students' creativity helping them to think innovatively. The assessment tool CEDA (Creative Engineering Design Assessment) is applied with minor modifications (CEDA-modified) to measure creativity in IE 101 Introduction to Engineering course. The CEDA score is modified by using AHP method to decrease the subjectivity of the assessment criteria. The study is applied to 49 industrial engineering students as an exam question. The question asked requires developing five advantages to an unusual design given. Male students developed more ideas compared to female students when they face with unusual design. More designs may be required to discuss through out the term and a proper term project that requires more design may be submitted to increase the success level.
