person.biographyHalit Cenan Mertol was born in Ankara in 1977. He completed his undergraduate education at Middle East Technical University, Department of Civil Engineering in 1999. In 2002, he concluded his MS. degree at the Department of Civil Engineering, Structural Mechanics Branch, at the same university under the supervision of Profesör Doktor Tuğrul Tankut. He went to the United States in 2002 for his doctoral studies at the Department of Civil Engineering at North Carolina State University. He completed his doctoral studies in 2006 under the supervision of Profesör Doktor Sami Rizkalla and continued his post-doc studies at the same university until mid-2007. He returned to Turkey in 2007 and started working at Yüksel Proje International Inc. He has been working at Atılım University, Department of Civil Engineering since 2008. He is married and has two children. His research interests include design and analysis of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel, wood, and masonry structures; repair and strengthening using advanced composite materials (FRP, etc.); design and analysis of high-strength and self-consolidated concrete; experimental and analytical studies; computer programming in Structural Engineering; active learning in Structural Engineering; occupational safety and health; and public outreach.
