This study focuses on MR's potentials in Basic Design (BD) education and its influence on novice designers' design thinking abilities. In this study, through a newly developed MR-based design framework, DesignMR, a comparative analysis between design processes in MR and the physical environment is presented. A hybrid evaluation methodology is used in the context of three-dimensional (3D) BD tasks through two sets of protocol studies: Linkography and exit interviews. Linkography is a method to analyze the design process based on detecting design moves and their links with each other. In this study, linkographic analyses point to an increase in critical moves and link index values in MR as compared to the physical environment for all participants. This indicates that MR can trigger improved creativity, design productivity, and design exploration by idea generation. Exit interviews highlighted the positive impact of DesignMR on the motivation, work efficiency, and 3D perception of the participants. Further research will be pursued for improved hand gestures to increase the effectiveness of object interaction.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3How Do Implant Threads and Diameters Affect the All-On Success? a 3d Finite Element Analysis Study(IOS Press BV, 2022-09-06) Zor,Z.F.; Klllnç,Y.; Erkmen,E.; Kurt,A.; Kilinc, YelizBACKGROUND: The effect of different thread designs and diameters on the all-on-four concept is unclear. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to clarify the differences in stress distribution of dental implants with various thread designs and diameters based on the all-on-four concept with three dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA). METHODS: A 3D model of a totally edentulous mandible was used to perform the FEA. Four different models (M1, M2, M3, and M4) including 3.5 and 4.3 mm diameter dental implants with active and passive threaded designs were generated. The dental implants were positioned according to the all-on-four concept. The Von Mises stresses on dental implants and maximum and minimum principal stresses (Pmax and Pmin) on bony structures were calculated under vertical, oblique and horizontal loads. RESULTS: For Von Mises stresses, the highest stress values were detected on the distal implants for all models. Distal implants had also the highest stress values for vertical loading. The Von Mises stresses were found to be concentrated around the implant's neck. In all models the highest Pmax and Pmin stresses occurred in the bone surrounding the distal implant. It was noted that the active threaded implants showed the highest Pmax and Pmin stress values. CONCLUSION: The implant thread design and diameter might have a strong influence on the stress values in the all-on-four concept. © 2022 - IOS Press. This study examined the bacterial community structures of brined grapevine leaves (n = 56) taken from seven distinct regions in Türkiye using next-generation sequencing technology. Investigations were also conducted into the samples' chemical properties. Firmicutes was the dominant phylum, followed by Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetes. Bacillaceae was the predominant family in the analyzed samples, followed by Clostridiaceae, Peptostreptococcaceae, and Enterobacteriaceae. Bacillus was the dominant genus, followed by Lysinibacillus and Clostridium sensu stricto. The samples exhibited differences in terms of pH, total acidity, and salt content. The pH values of the brined grapevine leaves ranged from 2.31 to 6.91, the acidity levels ranged from 0.09% to 1.80%, and the salt percentages ranged from 3.39% to 49.14%. This research provides pioneering information for bacterial community analysis of brined grapevine leaves. © 2025 Wiley-VHCA AG, Zurich, Switzerland.Article The Effect of Endurance-Based Sports on Athlete Success and Psychological Well-Being(Campus Educa Sports Sl, 2025-07-01) Ozpinar, Saliha; Yucel, Ali Serdar; Korkmaz, Murat; Oztas, Dilek; Kuyucu, Mihalis Michael; Aras, Goksen; Yüce, Ali SerdarThe aim of this study is to examine the effects of psychological resilience on sport success and mental health. The relationships between commitment, control and challenge, which are sub-dimensions of psychological resilience, and sport success and psychological wellbeing were evaluated and discussed in detail. Today, the problems arising due to the increasing competitive environment and stress factors have made it more important for athletes to be psychologically strong. Although the relationship between psychological resilience and sport success has been previously examined in the literature, studies evaluating the individual effects of the sub-dimensions of resilience in a large sample group are quite limited. This study aims to overcome this deficiency and make an up-to-date contribution to the subject. A total of 684 students (72 percent male, 28 percent female) studying at the Faculties of Sport Sciences of 16 universities in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Antalya participated in the study. Participants completed the Resilience Scale and Mental Health Inventory, and their sporting achievements were evaluated by their coaches using the Sport Achievement Scale. Data were collected via Google Forms (R) and analysed using SPSS 22.0 software with correlation, regression and Granger causality tests. The findings revealed that all resilience sub-dimensions showed positive and significant relationships with sport achievement ( R-2=0.93) and psychological well-being (R-2=0.68). Especially control and challenge factors had the strongest effects. As a result of the research, commitment, control and challenge, which are the sub-dimensions of psychological resilience, significantly affect both success levels and psychological well-being of athletes. Therefore, resilience development programmes for athletes should focus on these areas.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 516s Bacterial Metagenomic Analysis of Herby Cheese (otlu Peynir) Microbiota(Istanbul Univ-cerrahpasa, 2021-09-30) Sudağıdan, Mert; Yurt, Mediha Nur Zafer; Taşbaşı, Behiye Büşra; Acar, Elif Esma; Ömeroğlu, Esra Ersoy; Uçak, Samet; Aydın, Ali; Ozalp, Cengiz; Ersoy Omeroglu, Esra; Mediha Nur, Zafer YURTCheese microbiota may contain various bacterial species due to the use of different types of milk, rennet, and herbs. In this study, the distribution of the dominant bacteria present in the microbiota of herby cheese samples (n = 13) were examined by the next generation sequencing (NGS) technique. DNA was extracted both directly from cheese samples and after pre-enrichment. The metagenomic analysis of the NGS results revealed that Firmicutes were dominant both in DNA directly extracted from herby cheese (KOP), and pre-enriched samples (OP), at the phylum level. At the genus level, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, and Streptococcus were dominant in the KOP samples, whereas in the OP samples, Enterococcus, Streptococcus, and Bacillus were determined as the dominant bacterial genera. Although Lactococcus raffinolactis and Streptococcus salivarius were dominant in the KOP samples, Enterococcus faecalis and S. salivarius were dominant in the OP samples. The Shannon species diversity index and principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) were used to determine the distribution in KOP and OP samples at the genus level. The PCoA of KOP-10, KOP-11, KOP-2, and KOP-7, KOP-3, and KOP-6 samples showed the wide distribution, whereas KOP-5, KOP-8, KOP-9, and KOP-14 herby cheese samples were closely related. The OP samples, especially OP-7 and OP-14, showed wide distribution in comparison to other OP samples. Finally, the dominant bacterial communities were identified by DNAbased metagenomic analysis, and this is the first report to elucidate the microbiota of herby cheese produced in Turkey using the NGS technique.Article Citation - WoS: 16Citation - Scopus: 17Discrete Time Series-Parallel System and Its Optimal Configuration(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2021-11) Dembinska, Anna; Eryilmaz, SerkanThis paper is concerned with properties of series-parallel systems when the component lifetimes have discrete failure time distribution. For a series-parallel system consisting of a specified number of subsystems, we particularly focus on the number of failed components in each subsystem at the time when the system fails. Each subsystem is assumed to have identical components while different subsystems have different types of components. Assuming all components within the system are independent, we obtain exact distributions of the number of failed components at the time when the system fails. For the special case when the components have phase-type failure time distributions, matrix-based expressions are derived for the quantities under concern. The results are used to obtain optimal configuration of the series-parallel system which is replaced at failure.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Left Ventricular Geometry as a Predictor of Carotid Artery Stenosis Severity in Patients Undergoing Carotid Artery Stenting(Wiley, 2020-04-29) Karaduman, Bilge Duran; Ayhan, Huseyin; Keles, Telat; Bozkurt, Engin; Duran Karaduman, BilgeBackground and Aim Cerebrovascular diseases are the second most common cause of death worldwide. Moderate and severe carotid artery stenosis causes nearly 10% of all strokes. LV geometry is a familiar prognostic and diagnostic factor in several populations; yet, data on its role in carotid artery stenosis are unknown. In our study, we investigated the prognostic value of LV geometry in predicting carotid artery stenosis severity in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting. Methods Patients who underwent carotid artery stenting between January 2012 and January 2016 at our tertiary care center were evaluated retrospectively. Two hundred fifty-five patients who underwent carotid artery stenting were included in the study. Accessible echocardiographic documentation of ninety-eight patients was accessed and evaluated. Results LV normal geometry was detected in 37 (37.7%) of the 98 carotid artery stenting (CAS) patients, concentric hypertrophy in 13 (13.2%), eccentric hypertrophy in 9 (9.1%), and concentric remodeling in 39 (39.7%). By a majority, distal filter was used in normal geometry and eccentric hypertrophy groups (82.9% vs 100%, P: .017). Considering the relationship between carotid artery stenosis severity and LV geometry, we determined that the stenosis severity was statistically significantly higher in the concentric hypertrophy group (p:0.012). However, although no complications were detected in the concentric hypertrophy group, it did not reach statistical significance between the groups (P: .058). LVMi and as expected, Doppler velocity showed a significant correlation with stenosis severity (r = .23 vs .54; P: .021, <.001, respectively). Conclusion Echocardiographic evaluation of LV geometry provided prognostic information in the development of carotid artery stenosis. Abnormal LV geometry is an independent predictor in detecting the severity of carotid artery stenosis undergoing carotid artery stenting.Article Analyzing the Criteria Affecting Transition To Airplane by Comparing Different Methods(Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univ, 2022-07-29) Reyhanoglu, Izay; Tengilimoglu, DilaverThis study, using the multi-vehicle approach, discusses the criteria affecting the transition from alternative transportation modes (car, train, bus) to air transportation between city pairs that neither have a hub status nor non-stop flights between them. If these criteria change, the demand for air transportation will increase. For this purpose, a survey was conducted in the provinces of Kayseri and Bursa, which are among the important trade, industry, and tourism centers in Turkey, in the course of three months between January and March, 2018. Logistic regression, the artificial neural network model, and clustering analyses were applied to the data compiled from questionnaires responded to by 501 individuals in Kayseri and 453 individuals in Bursa. According to the empirical findings, it was concluded that the most significant criteria in the transition to air transportation according to all three methods are the cost of travel/ticket price and non-stop flight. Additionally, it was observed that the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) model made more accurate predictions compared to others. This study is important since it compares three different methods for the purpose of criteria determination concerning the choice of transportation modes.Article Citation - WoS: 1Mapping the Literature on Thermal Tourism: A Bibliometric and Content Analysis(Conscientia Beam, 2025-12-19) Alqaifi, Faten; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver; Aras, Ilknur ArslanThis study explores and maps the existing literature on thermal tourism to provide comprehensive insights and inform future research directions. The research design is based on a bibliometric analysis of 48 documents published between 2013 and 2023 and indexed in the Web of Science database. Data were processed and visualized using Microsoft Excel and Bibliometrix, followed by a content analysis of 42 English-language articles to capture thematic developments in the field. The findings indicate that, despite a temporary decline during the COVID-19 pandemic, publications on thermal tourism have shown strong growth and recovery, with an annual growth rate of 46.65%. The most significant contributions originated from Portugal, China, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, and Japan, with research disseminated across 37 journals. Four central themes were identified: (1) tourist behaviors and satisfaction, (2) demand and motivations, (3) quality and resource management, and (4) strategic and sustainable development. Among these, tourist behaviors and satisfaction emerged as the most prominent research area, representing 38.10% of the analyzed literature. This paper addresses a gap in the literature by mapping the knowledge landscape in the relatively underexplored field of thermal tourism, highlighting its growth potential and proposing a future research agenda. The practical implications suggest that recognizing these trends and themes can help policymakers, industry stakeholders, and academics develop strategies to enhance sustainable practices and expand opportunities in thermal tourism.
